Zona is a football coaching and playing philosophy and concept influenced by the ‘Spanish way’ of playing the ‘Hermosa’ game. Lead Zona coach, Kevin Green, spent several years studying, coaching and learning about football at professional level whilst in Spain and he brought the Spanish philosophy and style of play back to the UK with the intention of fusing it with all the best attributes of the English game. Along with Zona’s Marketing Director, Gary Pleece, they established Zona Football as a dynamic new concept of playing, coaching and learning through football. During their research for the Zona project, they established that not only could football have incredible reach and influence within the community, but that it could be used to engage and educate a whole new audience. The Zona concept has now been formed into a variety of projects, some of which are on this page and many more to follow.
This project teaches international students from all over the world how to learn English by being coached in football (less the swearing!). It spans a 4 week course in association with GBMET College in Brighton and International Language Schools. The students visit the UK to learn general English but also get an opportunity to have an additional way they can get to know the native tongue by using a variety of other subjects, one being the universal language of football. The coaching takes place over 15 hours each week for a 4 week period (or other flexible options are available) and also includes tours of Brighton & Hove Albion’s ground and training facility, plus the opportunity to play organised matches against local teams. This accelerated learning English model is popular with students from all over the world. Talk to us about how you can bring your school, team or group over to England for this fantastic opportunity.
